Leading Container Ports of the World 2025, Singapore Tops the List

Must read

DNV, in collaboration with Menon Economics, is excited to present you with the inaugural “Leading Container Ports (LCP) of the World 2025” report. Building on our acclaimed Leading Maritime Cities series, this study ranks the top 50 global container ports using a rigorous framework combining objective and subjective indicators. The findings derive from external and proprietary data analysis and extensive stakeholder engagement through international surveys and interviews with port users. Beyond rankings, the report examines best practices across policy, sustainability, digitalisation, and infrastructure.

This publication serves as a strategic analysis and an inspiration for governments and port authorities globally, empowering them to drive sustainable growth and competitiveness for their port ecosystem.

Singapore emerges as the world’s leading container port, ranking first across all five pillars, primarily driven by its aggregated indicator scores. The outcome is underpinned by world-class infrastructure, transparent governance, and efficient mainline-mainline and feeder-mainline connectivity. T he local port authority, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), has played a significant role by spearheading pioneering investments in alternative-fuel bunkering, establishing green shipping corridors, and implementing emissions-reduction measures. Central to Singapore’s strategy is Tuas Port, a highly automated facility that began operations in 2022 and, once fully complete by the 2040s, will handle over 65 million TEUs annually, making it the world’s largest. These initiatives have reinforced Singapore’s leadership, ensuring the port remains at the forefront of global maritime innovation.
