dship Carriers has ordered eight Liebherr LS 250 heavy-lift cranes for its latest D 500-class vessels.
The LS 250, part of Liebherr’s LS series, is designed to meet St. Lawrence Seaway regulations, enabling access to the Great Lakes–Atlantic trade corridor.
Each crane offers a lifting capacity of up to 250 tonnes and a 36-metre outreach, with a low deadweight of 150 tonnes, enhancing vessel stability and cargo handling.
The cranes will be manufactured at Liebherr’s Rostock facility and delivered to a Chinese shipyard in 2026, where they will be installed on four newbuilds. Once operational, the vessels will be deployed globally.
dship currently operates four F 500-class ships equipped with LS 250 cranes.
The new order marks a fleet expansion, reinforcing the company’s focus on heavy-lift capability and global project logistics.
Designed for harsh maritime environments, the cranes feature fully enclosed columns, integrated hydraulic piping, and Liebherr’s proprietary Litronic control system, which provides real-time data analysis and operator feedback to optimise performance and minimise maintenance.
Post-delivery, Liebherr Hamburg will oversee crane servicing and maintenance.
In December 2024, Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. announced its first-ever contract to supply two ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes to container terminal operator TraPac Oakland on the West Coast of the US.
