Dubai’s port and logistics giant DP World and Germany’s top shipping company Hapag-Lloyd recently announced that they have successfully renewed a ten-year cooperation agreement, continuing to deepen their long-term partnership at Brazil’s largest container hub, the Port of Santos.

This renewal marks a new phase in the collaboration between the two companies since its inception in 2014, ensuring Hapag-Lloyd’s vessels will continue to berth at the multi-purpose terminal operated by DP World until the 2030s.

The renewal of the cooperation coincides with DP World advancing a terminal expansion project with a total investment of $190 million. This project plans to extend the total quay length to 1,290 meters by 2026 and increase the annual handling capacity to 1.7 million TEUs.

This upgrade will significantly enhance the terminal’s operational capacity, enabling it to accommodate larger vessels and provide faster vessel turnaround services for key customers like Hapag-Lloyd. Notably, in early March this year, DP World had already reached a long-term cooperation agreement with another shipping giant, Maersk, to jointly expand the container service footprint in Brazil. The consecutive deepening of collaborations with global leading carriers clearly demonstrates DP World’s strategic layout of securing core partners across the entire Brazilian market.

Fabio Siccherino, CEO of DP World Brazil, commented on this: “This renewal fully reflects the solid partnership between our two sides and also confirms the core status of the Port of Santos as a key gateway for Brazilian trade. With the upcoming expansion project and newly invested advanced equipment, we can not only meet the continuously growing market demand in the future but are also committed to providing customers with reliable, efficient, and sustainable high-quality services.”

Luigi Ferrini, Senior Vice President of Hapag-Lloyd Brazil, simultaneously emphasized: “The signing of this agreement further solidifies our commitment to deepening our presence in the Brazilian market and strengthens the global strategic collaboration between Hapag-Lloyd and DP World. We believe this will directly benefit customers in this region, bringing them a more excellent service experience.”
