Maersk opens giant logistics center in Malaysia

Must read

Maersk has opened its largest logistics center to date in Asia and the Pacific region in the Malaysian city of Shah Alam, which has good connections to Port Klang and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The new center is located approximately 340 kilometers from the port of Tanjung Pelepas, which is Maersk’s main transshipment port in Asia.

“The opening of this state-of-the-art facility will further strengthen the logistics and supply chains in Malaysia,” says Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

The logistics center has a total floor area of nearly 180,000 square meters and is built to handle a wide range of goods – including fast-moving food and beverages, consumer goods, footwear, and apparel.

“Domestic consumption has been increasing, and we can now offer businesses across all sectors in Malaysia the opportunity to scale their warehousing and distribution seamlessly – especially during peak periods,” says Elaine Low, Area Managing Director, Southeast Asia, at Maersk.

The center is equipped with, among other things, Maersk’s Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), which provide customers with real-time visibility of inventory and transactions, improved traceability, and opportunities for technological integration with customers’ existing systems.

“The new center is one of our largest logistics centers globally. It strengthens our capacity to deliver reliable, flexible supply chains and modern, automated solutions that will help customers scale and achieve higher efficiency,” says KS Chang, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics Asia Pacific.
