Mandatory stop at screening yard now in effect at Port of São Sebastião

Must read

Starting this Wednesday (29), all trucks arriving at the terminal must pass through the Serramar Screening Center, a logistics support yard linked to the Port of São Sebastião. Located in the Pontal de Santa Marina district of Caraguatatuba (State of São Paulo), the facility will require prior scheduling with accredited transport companies.

Covering 32,000 m², the Screening Center offers parking, restrooms, a cafeteria, and a rest area, as well as 24-hour monitoring. Initially, it can handle up to 150 vehicles simultaneously, with the option to expand to 500.

The objective of the measure is to reduce congestion, shorten waiting times on urban roads, increase logistical predictability, and help reduce pollutant emissions. According to Ernesto Sampaio, president of Companhia Docas de São Sebastião (CDSS), “The implementation of the Serramar Screening Center represents an advancement in port logistics. Besides organizing truck arrivals, the measure ensures more safety and comfort for drivers and directly contributes to reducing environmental impact in the urban areas surrounding the terminal.”

Truck driver accreditation was authorized by an ordinance published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo in September. The ordinance also provides that a Special Commission may request adjustments and improvements whenever necessary. CDSS will conduct continuous inspections to ensure that services operate in accordance with the requirements of the accreditation notice.

The Port of São Sebastião, which is linked to the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil), has been investing in modernization and sustainability. One of the terminal’s areas will undergo a leasing process in 2026, expanding handling capacity to 4.3 million tonnes per year. In this context, the implementation of the AALP reinforces the port’s strategic planning and environmental goals.

Below is a historical chart of long-haul cargo movements at the Port of São Sebastião from January 2022 onwards. The chart was prepared using DataLiner data:

In addition to organizing the flow of incoming vehicles, the AALP also provides better rest and safety conditions for truck drivers, thereby improving working conditions in road freight transport and helping reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
