Shipping is an integral part of Greece’s economy and culture. Greek ships sail across the world and behind every journey lies a vast network of professionals ensuring the safety and proper functioning of vessels. One area that is less known to the general public is ship repair and maintenance: the field where vessels are maintained, repaired and upgraded to continue sailing safely and efficiently.
I have been part of this sector for 25 years, working both in shipping companies and in ship repair projects. My journey has been full of learning, collaboration and continuous challenges. As a woman in a traditionally male-dominated field, I have had the opportunity to demonstrate that knowledge, dedication and consistency are the key factors for success, regardless of gender.
Ship repair requires a combination of technical expertise, organization, collaboration and fast decision-making. Every project, whether a planned maintenance or an urgent repair, presents challenges that demand teamwork across multiple disciplines. The strength of these teams lies in their diversity of skills and perspectives. Women contribute a different viewpoint, enhancing creativity, communication and efficiency.
My experience has shown me that success depends on cooperation and mutual trust. Colleagues, regardless of gender, become partners in navigating complex situations and finding solutions. Looking back, I feel proud to have contributed to such a critical industry for Greece and the world.
Looking forward, I hope more young women will find inspiration and opportunities in shipping and ship repair. The path is full of challenges, but every step brings satisfaction, knowledge and experience. The sea rewards those who serve it with dedication and teamwork.
