A fire broke out on Wednesday August 10th aboard oil major Equinor’s FPSO Johan Castberg, which is under construction at a shipyard in Norway, public broadcaster NRK
reported. Workers were evacuated and there were no reports of injuries. The Arctic Johan Castberg oilfield is scheduled to come onstream during Q4 2024. Equinor said that the vessel suffered only minor damage and that the project’s timeline would not be affected.
2024-built, Bahamas-flagged, 150,000 gt Johan Castberg FPSO is owned and managed by Equinor ASA of Stavanger, Norway.
Container ship Ain Snan Express (IMO 9525869) was reported to have collided with French
fishing vessel Corail (IMO 9178147) shortly before midnight on August 9th in the Ouessant Traffic Separation Zone some 40nm west of Ushant (Ouessant) island, while sailing south, en route from Southampton, UK to the Suez Canal, Egypt. The fishing vessel’s bow was badly damaged and flooded, but it managed to return to Lorient under its own power. The
Ain Snan Express suffered an above-the-waterline breach roughly six metres by one metre, some 3.5 metre above the waterline, and resumed its voyage.
2012-built, Marshall Islands-flagged, 141,650 gt Ain Snan Express is owned by Ain Esnan Ltd care of manager United Arab Shipping Co Ltd Dubai Branch. UAE. It is entered with Gard P&I on behalf of Ain Esnan Ltd. As of August 11th it was off the coast of Portugal, en route to Suez Canal, ETA August 16th.
1998-built, France-flagged, is owned and managed by Scapeche SA of Paris CEDEX, France. As of August 10th the vessel was stopped at the French port of Concarneau, southern Brittany, France.
Box ship Mathu Bhum (IMO 8813647), which had been detained for allegedly carrying cooking oil that was at the time barred from export from Indonesia, returned to sailing
on August 7th after 96 days detention in Belawan Port. A Panel of Judges decided on August 4th that the vessel and its export goods be returned in 436 containers, and that a fine of 200m Indonesian Rupiah ($13,500) be imposed on the captain of the vessel.

The US Coast Guard has ended its search for a 31-year-old crew member who was assumed to have deliberately jumped overboard from the Eurodam (IMO 9378448) near Juneau, Alaska, during in the night of August 8th. USCG Juneau watchstanders received
notification from the cruise ship at 22:45 local time that a person was missing and had potentially gone overboard. A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew was despatched at 23:05. The crew arrived on scene some 10 minutes later. USCG Sector Juneau watchstanders also launched an Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew at about 00:00 on August 9th. The aircrew arrived on scene at approximately 00:40. However search efforts to locate the missing man were stopped the same afternoon.
