Marine accident round-up : 25th October 2022

Crude oil tanker Nissos Kea (IMO 9920758) was
reported to have been attacked by two drones during the afternoon of October
20th while it was loading oil at the Ash Shihr Oil Terminal off the coast of
Yemen. One drone exploded just in front of the bow, while a few minutes later
another exploded 30 metres from the starboard side. The tanker immediately
stopped loading, left the oil terminal and headed for international waters. No
one on board the tanker was injured as a result of the attack. It was not clear
whether the tanker or the oil terminal was the actual target of the
mid-afternoon attack.

2022-built, Marshall Islands-flagged, 154,449 gt Nissos
Kea is owned by Sea 289 Leasing Co Ltd care of manager Kyklades Maritime Corp
of Piraeus, Greece. It is entered with Gard P&I on behalf of Sea 289
Leasing Co Ltd.

General cargo ship Fehn Courage (IMO 9556818)
requested the medical evacuation of unconscious crew member on October 22nd.
The Huelva centre of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized an SAR helicopter. The
patient was hoisted and taken directly to the Juan Ramón Jiménez hospital. The
vessel berthed in Huelva, Spain, the same afternoon, where it remained as of
October 23rd.

2010-built, Latvia-flagged, 1,905 gt Fehn Courage is
owned and managed by Fehn Ship management of Leer, Germany. It is entered with
Thomas Miller Specialty (Hamburg).

Container ship Rio Madeira (IMO 9348106) lost
power on October 20th while cruising off Sydney, waiting for its scheduled arrival
on October 25th. The ship drifted almost due south along the New South Wales
coast, some 30nm offshore. Tug Svitzer Glenrock (IMO 9795866) was
assigned and the Rio Madeira was taken on tow during the morning of October 22nd
to be towed to Sydney, with an unchanged ETA. The ship has 3,380 containers on
board. As of October 23rd it was moored at Botany, Sydney, NSW,
Australia.

2009-built, Singapore-flagged, 73,899 gt Rio Madeira is
owned by Moller Singapore Pte Ltd of Singapore. It is managed by Maersk AS of
Copenhagen, Denmark. It is entered with North of England on behalf of AP Moller
Singapore Pte Ltd.

At least two people died when two boats collided on Friday in the Dutch Wadden Sea, near to Terschelling island. Two more people
remained missing, local authorities said. Four people were rescued safely. A
ferry boat and a smaller water taxi collided early on Friday morning October
21st, causing the people on board the smaller boat to fall in the water. Local
media reported the missing people as being a 12-year-old boy and an adult man.
None of the passengers on the ferry boat fell in the water. There were
currently no details on what caused the incident.
