Container ship EF Ava (IMO 9389306) suffered an explosion
in its engine room during the morning of October 24th when it was
some 25nm off the southwest coast of Iceland, while en route from Immingham,
UK, to Reykjavík, Icealnd. Subsequnt to the explosion the engine room filled
with smoke. Icelandic CG patrol ship Thor (IMO 9426893) sailed to
assist, with helicopters preparing to transfer firefighters to the stricken
vessel. The crew managed to bring the situation under control and the
firefighters were not needed. All crew were reported as safe, no injuries
reported. The Thor took the disabled ship under tow (or possibly escorted it) on
its final leg to Reykjavík, which it was continuing as of October 25th,
ETA October 25th.

2008-built, Portugal-flagged, 7,545 gt EF Ava is owned by
EF Ava Ltd care of manager Mercator navigation GmbH of Hamburg, Germany, ISM
manager is Midocean IOM Ltd of Douglas, Isle of Man. It is entered with
Steamship Mutual (European syndicate) on behalf of EF Ava Ltd.

A Chinese vessel has reached Sri Lanka to assist in the
salvage operations of the wrecked container ship X-Press Pearl (IMO
9875343). It will cut the vessel in half and move the two parts of the vessel
away from Sri Lanka. This operation will commence once favourable weather
conditions prevail. The salvage operation will also include the removal of
debris from the ocean floor in an area of /sq around the wreck. X-Press
Feeders signed a contract with the China-based Shanghai Salvage Company (SCC)
for the removal of the wreck, The 2021 -built, 321,629 gt X-Press Pearl caught
fire in May 2021 off Colombo, Sri Lanka and was one of the Group’s most
significant losses last year. It was owned by Eos Ro Pte Ltd care of manager
Sea Consortium Pte Ltd (X-Press Feeders) of Singapore, ISM manager was Eastaway
Ship Management Pte. It was entered with London Club on behalf of Killiney
Shipping Pte Ltd.

Oil products tanker Platform (IMO 8342088), which
has been suspected of oil theft, was handed over to the Nigerian Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on October 18th for further investigation
and possible prosecution by the Nigerian Navy. The commanding officer of the
Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Bonny, Nigeria. Said that the MT
Platform was intercepted and arrested on June 8th, in the vicinity of the Bonny
Anchorage for illegal dealing in petroleum products without a licence. He said
that the vessel did not have any authority or valid certificate to operate in
Nigerian waters.

1963-built, Nigeria-flagged, 1,119 gt Platform is owned
and managed by Petrostar Nigeria Ltd of Lagos, Nigeria. No AIS since August 27th,
when it was en route from LomeAnchorage, Togo, to an unknown destination.

Offshore /supply ship Caribbean Crest (IMO
8212518) was handed over to Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) on October 18th for further investigation and possible
prosecution by the Nigerian Navy. The Commanding officer of the Nigerian Navy
Forward Operating Base, Bonny, said that the Caribbean Crest and its 22 crew
were arrested on February 15th at the Bonny Fairway Buoy with an
unspecified quantity of stolen Petroleum Product, suspected to be automotive
gas oil (AGO). He said that the vessel did not have The vessel neither have any
authority or valid certificate to operate in Nigerian waters.

1982-built, Nigeria-flagged, 691 gt Caribbean Crest has
an unknown owner. As of October 24th the vessel was Stopped at Port
Harcourt, Nigeria.
