Master of containership “Algeciras Express” reported missing at sea

Must read

On July 8, the crew of the Algeciras Express, owned by Hapag Lloyd, informed that the master has been missing since July 3 on a voyage from Turkey to Spain.

The containership left the Turkish port of Yalova on June 30 and arrived at Algeciras on July 7. Upon arrival, a new captain came on board, and the ship was authorized to moor at the TTI Algeciras terminal.

There, the authorities took a statement from the ship’s first officer and entered the cabin of the missing captain. According to information, the agents did not find anything abnormal, while they also found the navigation plan for the following day designed by the captain.

The container ship left Yalova at noon on June 30, and three days later the crew noticed the master’s disappearance, when the ship was on the high seas, in international waters.

The absence of the captain prevented the Algeciras Express from reaching port until July 10, which is why it remained anchored as it was waiting for its shipping company to provide it with a new master to take responsibility for the docking maneuvers.
