In March 2023, US container shipowner Matson Navigation confirmed it will convert the two-stroke diesel engine in 3,600-TEU Kaimana Hila to LNG dual-fuel propulsion as part of an ongoing multi-million-dollar fleet retrofit programme.
In 2022, the company converted the container shipDaniel K. Inouye to burn LNG.
For its efforts, Matson Navigation is a contender to benominated for Retrofit Project of the Year Award.
The Retrofit Project of the Year Award will be presented atRiviera Maritime Media’s Maritime Decarbonisation Conference, Europe to be held 26-27 September 2023 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
