Med Marine secures newbuilding contracts in Q1 2025

Turkish tug builder and owner wins contracts to build five tugboats to Robert Allan designs

Med Marine has signed five newbuild tugboat contracts with owners and operators across the Mediterranean as harbours and terminals are expanded in the region.

The Turkish owner and shipbuilder announced contracts from unnamed operators in Italy, Greece and Spain during the first few months of 2025, all to be built at the Eregli Shipyard on the Black Sea coastline.

In January, Med Marine signed a contract for a 24-m DRAfter 2400 series tugboat to be delivered to Greece. This vessel will have a minimum bollard pull of 40 tonnes and will be powered by a twin-screw conventional propulsion system, for harbour duties including ship towing, pushing and mooring.

For an unnamed Spanish owner, Med Marine will construct a RAmparts 2300-W tug design harbour tug.This 23-m vessel will have about 50 tonnes of bollard pull from two azimuth thrusters on the stern and dual winches.

In February 2025, Med Marine secured an order for two RAmparts 2500-W and one RAstar 3200-W series tugboats to be delivered to Italian owners.RAmparts 2500-W tugs will be built with an overall length of around 25 m and two Z drives in an azimuth stern-drive propulsion configuration, delivering about 65 tonnes of bollard pull.

Med Marine will build the RAstar 3200-W tug for ship escort duties and manoeuvring around an LNG terminal in Italy. This 32-m tug will have two azimuth thrusters and 80 tonnes of bollard pull.
