New Delhi – Infrastructure, mobility and sustainable urban development are the chapters that the institutional mission in India of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixi aims to strengthen within the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, which also includes collaboration in the maritime sector. Now that the attention of international shipping is focused on India, it is the opportunity for Italy to build closer ties and consolidate its role as the landing point of the Imec Corridor that will unite India, the Middle East and Europe.

In New Delhi, Rixi – whose mission in India and Qatar will continue until October 31 – and the Indian Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, have laid the groundwork for a Memorandum of understanding on building and urban development that will foster collaboration on construction technologies, urban regeneration, sustainable planning and innovation in the smart cities sector. The meeting with the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Harsh Malhotra, was an opportunity for a discussion on the prospects for the development of the infrastructure network and on the possibilities of collaboration for more efficient, connected and environmentally friendly mobility. While with the Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh, Rixi spoke about the development of high-speed rail and the creation of industrial and technological synergies between companies.

The mission in India will continue in Mumbai where the Deputy Minister will participate in the Indian Maritime Week, the main event dedicated to the region’s maritime economy, which is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the agenda is a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Ports Sarbananda Sonowal to finalize a MoU dedicated to bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector between the Italian and Indian port systems, in view of the Imec Corridor.
