The new unit that Moby has decided to deploy on the route between Santa Teresa di Gallura, in northern Sardinia, and Bonifacio, in southern Corsica, will enter service on Wednesday.
The chosen vessel is the ro-pax Bunifazziu, formerly the Liburna under the banner of Toremar, another company belonging to the Onorato family: “The ship ensures greater capacity on this route (currently operated with the Giraglia, ed.), with 530 passengers and a garage able to accommodate 70 cars. Thanks to the Bunifazziu, the name of the city of Bonifacio in the Corsican language, the service between Sardinia and Corsica is improved, with passengers also having a large lounge available for the crossing with a higher level of comfort, with a bar and a large TV screen” explained a Moby press release.
The ship, which sports the classic Moby livery with the Blue Whale, will be in service all year round, will ensure four round trips daily and – Moby added – will adhere during the winter period to the schedules provided for by the territorial continuity service contract with the Sardinia Region.
The shipowner Vincenzo Onorato, who is also an honorary citizen of Bonifacio, explained: “The commitment of Moby and especially of the Onorato family to the Santa Teresa – Bonifacio route is decades old for locations that have always welcomed us with grace and friendship”. And Nadia Matta, the mayor of Santa Teresa di Gallura, added: “The arrival of the Bunifazziu ship represents a fundamental step for our community. Another ship that can ensure the connection between the two neighboring towns. A connection that is not only a service useful for tourism, but above all a vital resource to guarantee continuity in commercial, cultural, and social exchanges between Santa Teresa and Bonifacio. It is the only daily bridge between Sardinia and Corsica, and preserving it means strengthening the identity and cooperation of our two islands, which share history, traditions, and future”.
