Molslinjen’s electric ferry Tyrfing begins voyage from Turkey to Denmark

Must read

Samsølinjen’s new electric ferry Tyrfing has begun its voyage from Cemre Shipyard, located just south of Istanbul, Turkey, to Denmark, according to a press release from Molslinjen A/S on October 23, 2025.

Tyrfing is the second of two new electric ferries built for Molslinjen’s Alslinjen and Samsølinjen routes.

The ferry, 117 meters long, is powered by 3.8 MWh batteries and has diesel backup engines, which will be used during the approximately 18-day delivery voyage.

Because the ferry cannot charge its batteries at sea, it will refuel once, either in Setúbal, Portugal, or Vigo, Spain.

Once in Denmark, Tyrfing will first dock in Svendborg for final preparations before being inspected and approved by Danish authorities. Crew training and testing of charging systems will follow before its first scheduled trip on December 1, 2025.

Molslinjen A/S is Denmark’s largest domestic ferry operator, operating 20 vessels across 10 routes, including Alslinjen, Bornholmslinjen, Fanølinjen, Langelandslinjen, Molslinjen, Samsølinjen, and Øresundslinjen. The company connects Denmark, Sweden, and Germany. Molslinjen is also one of the world’s largest fast-ferry operators, employing more than 1,800 people. In partnership with Herning Turist and Vikingbus, Molslinjen operates the long-distance bus service Kombardo Expressen, linking major Danish cities with Copenhagen.

Cemre Shipyard is a Turkish shipbuilding company located in Yalova Province, south of Istanbul. The yard specializes in constructing advanced vessels, including ferries and offshore service ships, for international clients.
