Ordered from the Fujian Mawei shipyard, the ships will be employed in Northern Europe and chartered for eight years to a global operator. Investment of 66 million dollars

Oslo – The company Mpc Container Ships (Mpcc), listed in Oslo, has taken a new step in its fleet renewal strategy, ordering two 1,600 teu container ships from the Chinese shipyard Fujian Mawei Shipyard. The new units, designed for feeder routes in Northern Europe, will be delivered in the second half of 2027. The ships have already been chartered for eight years, with an option for an additional two, to a major undisclosed global operator. The overall investment is 66 million dollars and Mpcc stated it also holds options for additional units at the same shipyard.
The charter contracts will guarantee estimated revenues of approximately 92 million dollars and an EBITDA of 54 million over the contract period. The ships will be equipped with an optimized hull, reduced draft, and high maneuverability, to operate in European ports with infrastructural constraints. Onboard, energy-saving technologies will be integrated, in line with the most stringent environmental standards.
The project will be financed through a combination of equity and debt, maintaining financial flexibility and supporting dividend growth for shareholders, the company specified.
According to co-CEO Constantin Baack, the operation represents a further step in the fleet transformation path, consistent with the long-term strategy based on modernization, operational optimization, and stable employment with first-class clients. Baack also highlighted that the feeder segment in which Mpcc operates maintains solid fundamentals, with only 6% of the global fleet needing renewal within the next 2-3 years, while almost a quarter of the ships are over 20 years old.
This new order follows the one from July 2025, when Mpcc had purchased four 4,500 teu container ships for approximately 57 million dollars each, confirming the intention to strengthen its presence in the feeder market with a modern and efficient fleet.
