Two Norwegian shipowners, Peak Group and Grieg Edge, have announced the establishment of a new joint venture, Skarv Shipping.The new JV has plans tobuild up to four multi-fuel bulk carriers ‘before long’, which are expected to operate in northern Europe.
The new JV will focus on opportunities in the ageing short-sea fleet in Norway and elsewhere in northern and southern Europe.The new JV brings together Grieg’s expertise in ship technology andspecific experience in the development of anammonia-fuelled ship, MS Green Ammonia, with Peak Group’s track record in the short-sea segment.
“We believe that much of the development of new propulsion models in shipping will occur within the short-sea segment,” the Managing Director of Grieg Edge, Nicolai Grieg said.
Grieg Edge is part of the Grieg Maritime Group, whose main activity is in Open Hatch deep-sea shipping. Grieg Edge is the group’s dedicated innovation company and develops solutions within energy and infrastructure, offshore wind and short sea. In addition, the company invests in entrepreneurial companies within sustainable solutions for the maritime sector.
Peak Group owns and operates a fleet of 25 short sea vessels in, among other segments, project cargo and bulk. The group also has several companies that supply services to the maritime industry.
