His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Jazan Region, recently inaugurated the Port of Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries (JCPDI) Port.

JCPDI Port has a total berth length of 1250m for containers, bulk and general cargo, with a design capacity of one million TEU per year and around 4 million tons of cargo. In addition, it has a liquid bulk terminal for oil tankers operated by Saudi Aramco.

During the inauguration ceremony, His Excellency the President of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, Eng. Khalid Al-Salem, revealed that a range of investment and partnership agreements had been reached recently, including the establishment of the Saudi Silk Road Company to attract Chinese industrial investments to the Kingdom, a port investment and operation agreement with Hutchison Ports, as well as an agreement to establish an alumina refinery with Hangzhou Jinjiang of China.

The port consists, in its first phase of three industrial berths, a single point mooring (SPM) facility that provides services to the Saudi Aramco Refinery, three commercial berths for handling containers, general cargo and bulk goods, and storage yards with special areas for storing and monitoring refrigerated containers. One of the berths has a depth of 16.5 m alongside, which enables 21,000 TEU capacity containerships to be handled here, as well as general cargo and bulk ships with a capacity of more than 100,000 tons per ship.

Charlie Darazi, Hutchison Ports Jazan Chief Executive Officer, added that the port will be equipped with remote-controlled cranes, and systems for both bulk and container operations that will provide enhanced visibility to clients enabling them to perform all transactions electronically. He also stated that Hutchison Ports Jazan will run training programmes for local talent through its regional and global network.
