NORTH American rail volume for the week ending August 6 on 12 reporting US, Canadian and Mexican railways totalled 327,633 carloads, down 0.1 per cent, and 354,967 intermodal units, down 1.2 per cent year on year, according to Association of American Railroads (R).
Total combined weekly rail traffic in north America was 682,600 carloads and intermodal units, down 0.7 per cent. North American rail volume for the first 31 weeks of 2022 was 16,872,272 carloads and intermodal units, down 3.7 per cent compared with 2021.
Total US weekly rail traffic was 493,374 carloads and intermodal units, down 2.6 per cent compared with the same week last year.
Total carloads for the week ending August 6 were 230,573 carloads, down 1.6 per cent compared with the same week in 2021, while US weekly intermodal volume was 265,953 containers and trailers, down 3.4 per cent compared to 2021.
Canadian railways reported 74,899 carloads for the week, up 3.2 per cent, and 73,082 intermodal units, up 6.7 per cent compared with the same week in 2021. For the first 31 weeks of 2022, Canadian railways reported cumulative rail traffic volume of 4,447,124 carloads, containers and trailers, down 3.5 per cent.
Mexican railways reported 22,161 carloads for the week, up 4.8 per cent compared with the same week last year, and 15,932 intermodal units, up 2.7 per cent. Cumulative volume on Mexican railways for the first 31 weeks of 2022 was 1,160,412 carloads and intermodal containers and trailers, up 1.3 percent from the same point last year.
