Russia is open to cooperation with South Korea on the Northern Sea Route (NSR), stated the Russian trade representative in Seoul, Alexey Sapetko, adding that Seoul should not miss this opportunity.
“The answer to the question of how to cooperate with Russia on the Northern Sea Route is very simple: at the Rosatom Corporation there is a contact person to whom the request is sent,” explained the official.
This request “will be integrated into the program for maritime vessels within two weeks,” added Sapetko. He also expressed his willingness to help the South Korean side.
“Nothing prevents anyone from following this path: neither Korean, nor Chinese, nor Vietnamese companies. It is an open path,” emphasized the Russian trade representative.
During his electoral campaign in South Korea’s port cities, the current president, Lee Jae-Myung, repeatedly spoke about the potential of Arctic maritime trade routes.
On September 19, the South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cho Hyun, stated that Seoul was willing to cooperate with Russia in the Arctic region after the end of the conflict in Ukraine.
The Russian trade representative urged not to delay the resumption of interaction between the two countries and added that the South Korean side should not “avoid obtaining benefits.”
