Now is the time to decarbonise the offshore vessel sector

Must read

At a time of record-high fuel prices and growing offshore energy expenditure, offshore support vessel owners should be prepared to invest in technologies to reduce emissions.

Maersk Supply Service (MSS) chief operating officer Mark Handin forecasts more opportunities to cut greenhouse gas emissions on OSVs advantages for early adopters.

Mr Handin explains some of the initiatives MSS is taking, along with parent group AP Moller-Maersk, to reduce their environmental footprint, speaking during Rivera Maritime Media’s Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference 2022.

Mr Handin says initiatives underway include investments in hybrid-battery solutions and offshore charging buoys. MSS has also changed its strategy to focus more on the green energy sector, including the potential growth in installation of floating offshore windparks.

MSS was awarded the V.Group-sponsored Shipowner of the Year Award 2022 and the ESG Award 2022 during a gala dinner at the Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference 2022.

The awards recognised MSS’ efforts in removing plastics from the oceans, investment in hybrid propulsion to curb emissions and being an industry leader in ESG.

Riviera Maritime Media provides free technical and operational webinars.
