Old Norway ferry gets new life

Must read

An old acquaintance for many Danes, the former Norway ferry Christian IV – which for 18 years from 1990 to 2008 primarily sailed between Hirtshals and Kristiansand – has surprisingly been given a new life, 43 years after it was built.

The former Norway ferry arrived after a long ferry life with, among others, Olau Line, Fred. Olsen, Color, Stella, Fast Net and Moby to Asia in May, now owned by the Singapore-based venture capital firm Turn Capital, which has founded the shipping company World Cruises.

The ferry is now registered in Liberia, repainted and named World Legacy. The plan is for it
to lie at anchor an hour’s ferry ride from Singapore, and 30 to 40 minutes from Malaysia’s Johor port.

Travelers buy a ticket that gives them transport /return to the ship with a shuttle ferry, and once on board, they can enjoy the facilities. The price includes a basic dim sum restaurant. Base prices start at approximately 45 USD for 24 hours on board with an extra fee for cabins costing between 39 and 139 USD per night, depending on size and whether it is a weekday or weekend. The ship currently has 308 cabins.

Once a week, on Fridays, World Legacy docks in Singapore, to then begin a mini-cruise of two /three days. After the mini-cruise ends, passengers sail back to Singapore from the anchorage on Sunday.
