OMV Petrom and NewMed Energy have signed a drilling rig contract with Noble Corporation for the exploration of two offshore wells in Bulgaria’s Han-Asparuh Block, located in the Black Sea.
The Han-Asparuh Block is situated in the western Black Sea, spanning over 13,700 square kilometers with water depths nearing 2,000 meters. Exploration in the area began in 2012 and has included three previous wells, along with an extensive 3D seismic survey completed in May 2020.
OMV stated that the new drilling campaign is set to begin in the fourth quarter of this year and will last around four months. The rig contract is valued at approximately $80 million, with an overall drilling budget estimated at €170 million ($199.7 million).
The contract involves Noble’s drillship, the Globetrotter I. Halliburton will provide integrated drilling services, while SLB will handle well testing operations.
