Ocean Network Express (ONE) has adopted METRANS CO2 neutral rail transport services into its European land network to enhance the company’s commitment to provide environmentally friendly solutions.
Additionally, ONE also now participates in Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) Pure – an eco-friendly rail service connecting the ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Koper to the German and European hinterland in a sustainable way.
Johan Pijpers, ONE’s manager of inland operations procurement for Europe and Africa, said: “Sustainable inland transport is one of the key pillars for our procurement strategy for the coming years.
“Joining carbon neutral initiatives like METRANS and HHLA Pure contributes to our green ambitions.”
METRANS CO2 services utilises modern CO2-optimised hybrid and electric locomotives, electrification at the port container terminal and handling with widely electrified processes.
It is certified by the independent German accreditation body TÜV and any unavoidable CO2 emissions are offset through internationally certified Gold Standard climate protection projects.
Moving containers by train is amongst the most eco-friendly forms of transportation by specifically procuring the TÜV-certified services allows ONE to provide its carrier haulage customers carbon-neutral certificates on request.
