Entering the third quarter, Fujian Shipbuilding continued to build on its momentum and redoubled its efforts. Focusing on its main ship types, it fully tackled construction bottlenecks, deepened chain collaboration, and strengthened the overall scheduling of resources. With greater determination and stronger measures, it sprinted towards its annual targets and tasks.
18,500 DWT Chemical Tanker Delivered
On August 25th, the 18,500 DWT chemical tanker “GOLDEN CEDAR” (DN517-2), built by Southeast Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding, was successfully delivered, three months ahead of the contractual schedule. Leaders and guests from Intercontinental Shipping, AVIC International Leasing, Jiangmen Qianxin Chemical, Bureau Veritas, Odelici Marine Engineering, United Shipbuilding, Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group, and Fujian Shipbuilding attended the delivery and naming ceremony.
This type of ship has an overall length of 149.8 meters, a beam of 22.8 meters, and a depth of 12.7 meters. Its main cargo includes crude oil, petroleum products with a density lower than 1.54 tons per cubic meter, and chemicals (Category II and III), liquid chemicals, including IMO Category II and III petroleum products listed in MARPOL Annex I and the IBC Code. The ship’s main engine and generator sets are equipped with nitrogen oxide emission control devices (SCR), complying with IMO Tier III requirements and the ice class strengthening requirement ICE CLASS 1C.
This ship type adopts a multi-load line design to meet the requirements of different flag states and ports. The liquid cargo system design uses six independent transmission systems driven by variable frequency hydraulics, simultaneously driving six cargo pumps and one ballast pump, enabling the unloading of six types of liquid cargo simultaneously. The discharge rate of a single cargo pump is 300 cubic meters per hour, with a maximum discharge rate of 1,800 cubic meters per hour. The propulsion system uses a low-speed two-stroke diesel engine, paired with a controllable pitch propeller and a front-mounted energy-saving guide wheel device, as well as a flap rudder device with a rudder bulb. It is also equipped with a variable frequency shaft generator set, allowing for operation without generator sets during navigation, which reduces ship energy consumption while improving the ship’s maneuverability.
Since its commencement on June 17, 2024, the project was successfully completed in just over a year. As one of the top ten global ship management companies, Intercontinental Shipping’s cooperation with Fujian Shipbuilding continues to deepen. From the initial order for six 18,500 DWT chemical tankers to the subsequent追加 “4+2” ships, it reflects the customer’s high recognition of Fujian Shipbuilding’s construction quality and management capabilities.
As one of the representative products of Fujian Shipbuilding’s practice of the “specialized, refined, unique, and innovative” concept, this ship inherited the construction experience of previously delivered chemical tankers. It was delivered just 13 days after sea trials, three months ahead of the contractual delivery date, achieving new breakthroughs in various technical aspects.
To date, Fujian Shipbuilding has successfully delivered 10 units of the 18,500 DWT chemical tanker, achieving early delivery for multiple ships, setting a new speed record for the construction and delivery of this ship type, and winning widespread market acclaim. The delivered ships have excellent performance indicators, with key metrics such as cargo hold coating, equipment stability, and maneuverability all surpassing contractual and industry standards, and receiving positive operational feedback.
Two Tuna Purse Seiners Launched
On August 22nd and 25th, two 76-meter large tuna purse seiners (/2) built by Mawei Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Fujian Shipbuilding, were successfully launched.
This ship has an overall length of 76.73 meters, a beam of 13.50 meters, and a depth of 7.70 meters. The fish hold volume is approximately 1,880 cubic meters. It is classed by the China Classification Society, has a free-running speed of 15.6 knots, and an endurance of 10,000 nautical miles. It can accommodate up to 38 crew and fishing personnel for living and working simultaneously.
The ship is equipped with 2 sets of S-band seabird radars and multiple sets of color fish finders. It can conduct preliminary large-scale searches and positioning using the seabird radar, followed by accurate positioning with the fish finders, offering search and positioning capabilities superior to those of traditional tuna purse seiners. It has 12 brine-freezing fish holds and 8 refrigerated dry catch holds. The brine-freezing fish holds can cool newly caught fish to -17°C, with a daily brine cooling capacity of about 279 tons. The refrigerated dry catch holds can freeze and preserve the catch at -35°C, effectively ensuring the freshness of the fish.
