Østensjø Rederi signed a newbuilding contract with Gondán Shipyard in Spain for the construction of a next-generation offshore tug, with delivery scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
The new tug, a Skipsteknisk ST 933 design, will be the largest and most powerful built by Østensjø, further strengthening the company’s offshore towing capabilities.
With a bollard pull capacity of 150 tonnes and a DP-2 dynamic positioning system, the unit will offer exceptional power, precision, and reliability. A comprehensive winch package allows it to perform complex tasks, providing it with great operational flexibility.
Equipped with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system for low fuel consumption operations and methanol-ready, the new vessel is an important step towards more sustainable operations and aligns with Østensjø Rederi’s goal of reducing emissions.
“This newbuilding represents an important step in further strengthening our offshore tug fleet. Building on our extensive experience in tug operations, we have focused on developing a tug that offers the capacity and reliability required for offshore tug operations, thus meeting the demands of the future. This tug meets all the requirements, and the combination of high bollard pull, advanced hybrid propulsion, and great winch capacity ensures exceptional operational flexibility and capability,” stated Kristian Helland Vea, Chief Executive Officer of Østensjø Rederi.
