OTG develops digital technology to deliver training content

Must read

Ocean Technologies Group (OTG) has developed a new digital framework to deliver training, fleet management content and software application updates

This London, UK-headquartered group’s new infrastructure is hardware agnostic, ensuring the technology works over all systems used on ships and uses secure connectivity between ship and shore.

It will facilitate over-the-air delivery of OTG’s applications, including its Ocean Learning Platform, TM Master fleet-management software and Compas programs for maritime human resources.

OTG will roll out this digital solution to its customers to help them transition to modern content and upgrade delivery methods.

This will increase infrastructure security, reduce dependence on physical logistics and support constant synchronisation between ship and shore, said OTG chief technology officer Ian Hepworth.

“Reliance on physical logistics to get content or updates to ships is not only sub-optimal but has proven prone to disruption over the last two years of the pandemic,” he said.

“We are prioritising digital delivery to eliminate this risk and several others for our customers’ IT teams.”

Security is improved by eliminating the use of memory storage devices and emails to provide updates.

“Fewer machines need to be maintained on board as solutions can be installed as a virtual machine on existing hardware,” Mr Hepworth explained. “Automation of data exchange ensures everyone has the most up-to-date information, software, and content without needing to request it.”

OTG chief revenue officer Johan Gustafsson said digital delivery will “improve the quality of solutions and lay a solid foundation for delivering solutions customers will need tomorrow.”

He said better connectivity to ships worldwide has enabled digital installation and update services.
