Partnership combines data analytics with software for inland navigation

Must read

Data analytics specialists ioCurrents and Rose Point have formed a partnership to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to help mariners navigate US inland waterways safey

ioCurrents’ data analytics on fuel consumption will be combined Rose Point’s marine navigation software to provide insights to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

This is increasingly important in US inland marine transport involving towboats, pusher tugs and workboats as fuel costs rise and environmental regulations tighten.

ioCurrents’ proprietary data analytics platform, MarineInsight, enables vessel operators to make informed decisions based on live data outputs and data analysis using AI and machine-based learning to generate real-time fact-based insights for operational efficiencies across a fleet.

Subscribers to MarineInsight will also be able to access Rose Point’s fleet services.

ioCurrents director of business development Jon Best expects the partnership with Rose Point will help US operators of inland vessels “to make efficiency savings in their journey planning and optimise their fuel consumption.”

He added, “In effect, they will get situational awareness with Rose Point’s uncluttered navigation displays and controls, coupled with ioCurrents up-to-the-minute live fuel burns and fuel flow data.”

This almost real-time information will enable vessel operators to adapt their operations to reduce their environmental impact.

“This will not only help them make decisions to reduce fuel consumption, but will also reduce emissions and have a positive impact on their bottom line,” said Mr Best.
