Passenger ship Astoria Grande (named the AIDAcara
until September 2021) (IMO 9112789) collided with a breakwater at around 09:00
local time on January 18th while it was trying to enter Amasra port, on the
Black Sea coast of Turkiye.
The ship had 385 passengers and 283 crew on board at the
time. It had just arrived from the Russian holiday resort of Sochi and was
attempting to dock at Amasra during rough weather. Strong winds were thought to
be the cause of the accident.
The vessel left the harbour and sailed offshore to wait
out the bad weather. When the vessel eventually moored it was scheduled to be
surveyed by divers for possible underwater damage to the hull.
1996-built, Palau-flagged, 38,557 gt Astoria Grande is
owned by Goodwin Shipping Ltd care of manager Camelot Maritime Shipping of
Istanbul, Turkey. Last AIS from January 18th was off port of Amasra,
Black Sea, Turkey.
