Pianc will include the Barcelona port’s Nexigen plan in its guide of international references for the installation of OPS

Must read

The Nexigen plan of the port of Barcelona will be one of the international references of good practices that the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (Pianc) will include in its guide for the installation of OPS systems. The guide, prepared by the experts of the Pianc’s working group on dock electrification, will unify the existing information on OPS and provide a clear roadmap for the development of these projects internationally.

The two OPS systems of the Nexigen project are operational and together have reduced the emissions of ships arriving at the port of Barcelona by nearly 3,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent. Last October 27th, the Pianc working group met in Barcelona, with the participation of members from the Shorepower area of the port of Barcelona. The meeting combined presentations on the Nexigen Plan and the operational details of the two OPS systems already installed with working sessions to advance the development of the guide for the installation of these systems.

“This meeting of the Pianc working group highlights the capacity of the port of Barcelona to actively participate in the international technical debate, contributing real experiences of operations and maintenance that can serve as a reference for other ports in the world,” said Ana Arévalo, head of the Shorepower area of the port of Barcelona.
