The P&O Maritime Logistics subsidiary has taken delivery of a new harbour tug with low emissions and quiet machinery for a major Spanish port
P&O Reyser has welcomed a newbuild harbour tugboat to its fleet operating in the Port of Barcelona after its construction in Turkey.
Uzmar Shipyard built Caraba to a Cintranaval design as the sister vessel to Balahu, which was delivered in Q4 2024 to the owner.
Newbuild NB170 is the second vessel built in a next-generation series of asymmetric tractor tugs and comes with a bollard pull of 76 tonnes, which Uzmar says “sets a new record for the class”.
This comes from twin MAN Energy Solutions 12-cylinder 175D MM+ engines connected to selective catalytic reduction units to minimise NOx in their exhaust for IMO Tier III compliance.
These engines drive two Kongsberg azimuth thrusters enabling advanced handling, stability and precision control to handle the complex traffic conditions encountered in the busy port.
Uzmar said the “asymmetrical hull design was developed specifically for high-traffic manoeuvring, and enables confident and efficient vessel escort, berthing and towing operations.”
This comes with a light environmental footprint as Caraba was built to eco-silent class standards with low emissions.
