Port Authority begins works to improve key access to Port of Santos

Must read

The Port Authority of Santos (APS) will begin new work on Avenida Augusto Barata, the perimeter road on the right bank of the Port of Santos, in the Alemoa area, on October 20. The work aims to optimize and improve the vehicular flow on the main access road to the terminal.

The road infrastructure improvements include pavement replacement, lane adjustments, LED lighting, and signage. The investment amounts to USD 5 million.

“This project, at the beginning of the Santos perimeter, is part of a USD 2,300 million investment over the last five years that we can call a revitalization of the Port of Santos. This investment is one of the knots that have been untied in this administration, a project that had been stalled for three years and that will improve vehicular flow in the region,” explained the president of APS, Anderson Pomini.

The first phase, which will last until the end of November, will consist of the construction of a new lane that will serve as a traffic detour. During this phase, local traffic will not be interrupted.

In addition to the road improvements, the project includes the construction of a drainage channel with greater capacity and the consequent improvement of the municipal network’s flow, replacing the existing drainage ditch. This will reduce the frequency of flooding, which in turn will contribute to smoother traffic.

The work will be carried out by the FMENG-Alemoa consortium, made up of the companies Meng Engenharia and FFL Sinalização, the winner of the bidding process conducted by APS in the first quarter of this year.

The road work includes three other phases and is expected to be fully completed in December 2026. Together with the construction, in partnership with the state highway concessionaire, of two access viaducts to the port entrance, and with the implementation of the Santos-Guarujá tunnel, it will give consistency to the road system that will serve the projected growth for the coming years of the Port of Santos.
