The Port Authority of Algeciras (APBA) has awarded Sociedad Anónima Trabajos y Obras (SATO) the execution of Phase 2 of the Maritime Lake project in Llano Amarillo.
This is the section covering the northern front of Llano Amarillo and the existing corridor between the UCA SEA building and the area of the flamenco children’s park and the open-air auditorium built by the Algeciras City Council in 2024.
Regarding this important step, the president of the Port Authority, Gerardo Landaluce, commented that the award of Phase 2 “represents a new boost for the Maritime Lake project, which has already established itself as a new meeting, leisure, sports, and knowledge space for our neighbors and visitors.”
The proposed award amount for the project is €5,576,207 (+VAT). The works, which will be carried out throughout 2026, cover an action area of 16,091 square meters, including the rectification of the current alignment of the northern closure of Llano Amarillo to maintain a constant width for the Paseo de Ribera.
The new alignment will include a 77-meter extension of the vertical block quay, which will be the future berth and boarding point for the APBA’s visitor boat. The rest of the northern closure will be rectified with a new rubble mound breakwater and special 3.4-ton “Coastalock” concrete units, designed to create intertidal habitats on maritime fronts, plus a 240-meter-long stepped seating area facing the sea. The project includes the installation of 3 fishing platforms.
This phase also includes the creation of more than 1,300 square meters of green areas with flowerbeds and tree pits containing 163 trees and more than 1,600 shrubs; 8 pergolas with bench bins, fountains, and a café area; the extension of the bike lane by 181 meters to connect it with the existing section on Pérez Arriete; and the urbanization of 10,648 square meters of pedestrian areas with a marine-themed children’s play area, a physical maintenance area for seniors, and a calisthenics circuit, among other actions.
