Must read

From January to July 2025, the Port of Iquique handled a total of 622,579 tons of cargo linked to Bolivia, according to data from the Empresa Portuaria Iquique (EPI) analyzed by PortalPortuario.

The figure shows a 17% increase compared to the same time frame last year.

In its breakdown, 141,131 tons correspond to Bolivian cargo shipped from the Iquique port facility, with July being the month of highest activity with 29,103 tons. The opposite case occurred in June, with a total of 12,704 tons.

Meanwhile, 481,448 tons were from the process of unloading goods whose final destination was Bolivia. March positioned itself as the month with the highest volume handled at 89,125 tons, while the lowest amount was transferred in April (48,830 tons).

It is worth mentioning that the Port of Iquique handled a total of 901,253 tons of cargo linked to Bolivia in 2024, a figure lower than that recorded in 2023 (934,946 tons) and 2022 (919,162 tons). This activity is part of its role as a logistics facilitator, which helps keep the Andean Macro Region connected.

This type of activity could increase in the coming years, as the Iquique port facility is part of one of the strategic axes of the Plan de Acción del Corredor Bioceánico Vial, which was presented in April by the Gobierno de Chile. As a result, plans are in place to expand the capacity of the maritime station and backup areas.
