The Port of Oshawa will enjoy a CAD$30 million ($23 million) cash injection to bolster facilities as part of an expansion project at the port.
Canadian Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra announced close to CAD$14million ($11 million) from the national government. As the recipient, the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority is contributingCAD$16 million ($12 million), representing a total investment of almost$30 million.
With this investment, new infrastructure will be built to modernise operations in the port’s main area and position it for growth.
Other improvements planned at the port include expanding marine infrastructure, upgrading storage and container terminals, as well as extending and paving roads in the harbour.
This project will also increase grain exports and improve the fluidity of deliveries.
“This project represents a major opportunity to increase capacity to import and export goods in and out ofOntariothrough the Port ofOshawa,” commented Alghabra.
“By supporting the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority, we will improve the movement of goods acrossCanada’stransportation networks and keep Canadian supply chains competitive.”
In May the Government of Canada contributed more than CAD$42 million ($32.7 million) to improve supply chain efficiency for Canadian shippers in Saint John and McAdam, New Brunswick.
Earlier this month the Port Authorities of Montreal, Québec and Trois-Rivières created a working group to strengthen the St. Lawrence River’s trade corridor in Canada to expedite decarbonisation and aid global supply chains.
