The Port Authority of Vigo, represented by its president, Carlos Botana, signed a Non-Regulatory International Agreement for institutional collaboration with the Port Administration of Puerto Madryn (APPM) and the Argentine Patagonian Chamber of Fishing Industries (CAPIP).
This agreement, framed within the FAO’s Blue Ports initiative and which seeks to support future development projects in ports around the world, has as its main objective to establish a stable framework for action that allows the entities to share and transfer the accumulated experience in their respective areas of competence, promoting the continuous improvement of their activities and the strengthening of capacities.
The parties have identified various areas of mutual cooperation in the port sector, which will be developed through the exchange of information, technical advice, research and innovation projects, and the organization of courses, seminars and technical missions.
Among the areas of collaboration, Sustainability and Energy Transition, digitalization, comprehensive port management, logistics and innovation stand out.
Carlos Botana stated that “this agreement is of great interest to the Port of Vigo and to the fishing sector of our region. Sharing our experience and good practices with Puerto Madryn, a benchmark on the Patagonian coast, and with CAPIP, which represents 16 companies and 55 vessels, allows us to establish a platform for meeting and joint action to address common challenges, especially in the energy transition and digitalization”.
The APPM administers the Almirante Storni and Comandante Luis Piedra docks, while CAPIP directly employs 4,000 people and represents a fundamental part of the Argentine fishing industry.
