The deputy minister determined to break the impasse. Today the decree appointing Paroli in Genoa
Trieste – After yet another postponement of the Senate Transport Committee votes for the appointment of ten Port Authority presidents due to clashes among the governing coalition parties over allocations, the Deputy Minister at MIT, Edoardo Rixi, has decided to tackle the issue head-on. Speaking yesterday, Thursday the 24th, at the event “RoboGO – Robotic technology revolutionizing port infrastructure maintenance” organized in Trieste by Impresa Taverna and the Icop group, Rixi first announced that today the decree appointing Matteo Paroli as president of the Port System Authority of Vado Ligure will be issued. He then explained that he had issued an ultimatum to the Senate and Chamber committee chairs. Essentially, he stated that either the chambers vote on the presidents, finally pulling the ports out of the dangerous drift they are sinking into, or—since the 30-day legal deadline has expired—the appointments will proceed without committee votes. Without mincing words, the deputy minister said: “I don’t want to go on vacation without making the appointments. I respect Parliament, but we must resolve this matter.” And further: “In the next ten days, I hope the problem will be resolved, one way or another.”
After all, as he said during the public interview conducted by Luca Ubaldeschi, director of the Northeast dailies of the Nem group, staying within the summer break is a reasonable timeframe—beyond that, no. Ports and the blue economy can no longer passively endure the delays and rituals of political horse-trading, whose only playbook seems to be the “Cencelli manual” of seat-sharing. On Wednesday the 30th, the votes were reinstated on the agenda of the Senate Transport Committee. We’ll see how the tug-of-war between Brothers of Italy and the League ends and whether the interests of the state prevail over petty partisan interests.
On stage with Rixi was also the extraordinary commissioner of the Port of Trieste and president-designate of the Authority, Antonio Gurrieri, who is under investigation for money laundering unrelated to his role in the port, where he has worked for thirty years. The very fact that Rixi chose to appear at a public event alongside him is a kind of show of solidarity. On the sidelines, the deputy minister later stated: “I hope Gurrieri can clarify everything with the Prosecutor’s Office as soon as possible. We are monitoring the situation; I hope for swift resolution.”
