GENOA – “Safety and life-saving techniques” is the theme of the five days of intensive training successfully held at the two Genoese terminals PSA Genova Pra’ and PSA SECH, which involved approximately 300 employees, both administrative and operational. This was announced by PSA Italy. The training was carried out thanks to the collaboration of the company with the Italian Red Cross.
The training saw the participation of expert trainers from the Genoa Committee and Genoa Ponente of CRI who provided fundamental practical lessons, as part of the “Safety cafè – Coffee break safely” project developed and created by the HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) departments of both container terminals, coordinated by the Safety Officer & Safety Training Supervisor, Andrea Stagnaro.
The training, structured over several sessions held at the PSA Genova Pra’ container terminal on September 23, 24, and 25 and at PSA SECH on September 30 and October 1, allowed participants to acquire vital skills: among the techniques taught were the use of the defibrillator (BLSD), cardiac massage, airway obstruction relief, and Basic Life Support (BLS). The sessions were conducted in small groups, ensuring effective learning through the use of professional mannequins.
The President of the Genoa Committee of the Italian Red Cross, Federica Bonelli, commented: “The Genoa committee was pleased to accept the request for collaboration from the PSA SECH and PSA Genova Pra’ terminals for the dissemination of life-saving maneuvers to their employees. We are aware of the enormous importance of such maneuvers, especially when performed by first responders, and we appreciate Companies that take action to ensure the safety and health of their personnel.”

“Safety is a fundamental pillar, not only in the workplace, but in every moment of our lives – stated Guido Patrone, RSPP, Dangerous Goods Manager and QHSE supervisor of PSA Genova Pra’ – These courses are an excellent way to keep people’s attention alive and to provide them with skills that can make a difference in everyday emergency situations. It is gratifying to see such commitment from colleagues in both areas, administrative and operational.”
The project goes well beyond the requirements of mandatory training, which every year leads to the training of over 500 people on workplace safety, reaffirming the commitment of the PSA Italy group, which in Italy has three container terminals between Venice and Genoa, in promoting a culture of safety in every aspect, personal and professional.
“We are extremely satisfied with the outcome of this initiative, which was met with great enthusiasm by all participants – commented Massimiliano Gustini, Head of the Prevention and Protection Service and QHSE supervisor of PSA SECH. – Training colleagues in these life-saving techniques represents an invaluable added value for our community and for the entire society. It is a concrete demonstration of how investing in safety and people is an absolute priority for us.”
The initiative confirms the joint commitment of PSA and the Italian Red Cross to spreading life-saving skills and strengthening the safety culture, helping to make workplaces and society safer for everyone.
