Qingdao Port receives triple national distinction as green port

Must read

Qingdao Port, of Shandong Port Group (SPG), received three “five-star” distinctions in the 2024 national green port rating evaluation, announced by the China Ports and Terminals Association.

Qingdao Qianwan Phase II & III Container Terminal (QQCT) and Qingdao Qianwan United Container Terminal (QQCTU) obtained the “five-star green port” rating, while the southern area of the Qianwan Container Terminal was designated as a “full five-star” green port area. These are the highest distinctions in China’s green port evaluation system.

This achievement positions Qingdao Port as the first five-star green container port area in northern China and one of the first in the country. It also marks the first time a full five-star green coverage has been achieved in its main container areas, setting a benchmark for national port development.

QQCT and QQCTU, located in the Qianwan port area, together with Qingdao Qianwan New Container Terminal (QQCTN), constitute the main container operations zone. The southern area of the container terminal, comprising QQCTU and QQCTN, focuses on international container transport by trunk lines. The unified implementation of routes and resource sharing have reduced vessel port stay time and improved logistics efficiency by 30% annually.

SPG highlights that green equipment has been implemented, such as oil-electric and hydrogen-electric hybrid tugboats, and the world’s first aerial rail container transport and distribution system. The “A-TOS” system, independently developed by the port, integrates intelligent and green technologies, continuously setting world records for efficiency in automated terminals.
