Rail Dedicated Line Construction Commences, Yueyang Iron-Water Combined Transport Coal Reserve Project Achieves Major Progress

Must read

On August 26, the dedicated railway line project for the coal collection and distribution system in the Yueyang Port area of the Haoji Railway officially commenced construction. This project, undertaken by Yueyang Tieshui Jiyun Coal Reserve Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Hunan Energy Group, is another key initiative for Hunan Province to improve its coal transportation system and enhance its energy security capabilities.

The main line of the Yueyang Port area dedicated railway is 21.514 kilometers long with a total investment of 1.769 billion yuan. It is an important component of the Yueyang Tieshui Jiyun Coal Reserve Project. This project encompasses three major components: the terminal, the reserve base, and the dedicated railway line. It is part of the national strategic coal reserve layout and a key construction project in Hunan Province. In the future, leveraging the advantages of the Haoji Railway and its location for “sea-to-river” transport, it will integrate services such as coal trade, railway transportation, and port operations, aiming to build a national-level transit hub for “north-to-south coal transport.”

Upon completion, the dedicated railway line will directly connect the rear reserve base with the terminal project, achieving seamless integration between the terminal and the Haoji Railway, Jingguang Railway, and the Yangtze River waterway. It will open up multimodal transport channels such as “water-to-rail,” “rail-to-water,” and “rail-to-rail,” effectively solving the “last mile” connectivity issue and accelerating the formation of a new pattern of “rail-water intermodal transport, connecting rivers and seas.” This will not only significantly reduce logistics costs and improve the efficiency of coal collection and distribution in the Yueyang Port area but also markedly enhance Hunan Province’s coal resource allocation capacity and market competitiveness in the “Two Lakes and One Jiang” region.

It is reported that the Yueyang Tieshui Jiyun Coal Reserve Project is currently progressing steadily. The reserve base project plans to construct five strip warehouses with a static storage capacity of 2 million tons. Among these, two strip warehouses in the first phase are 95% complete and are expected to begin trial operation in the third quarter of this year, with a static storage capacity of 800,000 tons. The first phase of the terminal is operating stably and has safely supplied 4 million tons of coal to Hunan Petrochemical. The second ship unloader is currently being installed and is planned to be put into use by the end of September, which will further enhance the terminal’s unloading and transfer efficiency.

Yueyang Tieshui Jiyun Coal Reserve Co., Ltd. stated that it will strictly implement production safety responsibilities, rigorously control project quality and progress, ensure the high-quality and efficient advancement of the Yueyang Port area dedicated railway line project, and achieve completion and operation as planned by the end of 2027.
