The Ionian Sea Port System Authority celebrated what it announced to be a new European record.
“A historic milestone for the port of Taranto in the European offshore wind supply chain: for the first time, Vestas has performed a full load of 12 V236 wind turbine blades onto a single ship, the Tony Stark (of the German company Nauticore, ed.), headed towards the He Dreiht offshore construction site in the North Sea,” the Apulian port authority announced. It then added: “Complex, delicate, and extraordinary operations, managed successfully and in total safety also thanks to the proven expertise of our port operators. This new milestone related to the production of the V236 represents a record never before achieved in Europe.”
The AdSP of the Ionian Sea also added that “the production pace continues to be intense: the next appointment is set for mid-November, when the twelfth load will be ready to set off again for the North Sea.”
The port company Payrani Sud and the company Sae – Società Autotrasporti Eccezionali also participated in the handling and loading phases.
Vestas Blades Italia is the company that since last May has been granted a 9-year concession in the Ionian port for the state-owned maritime property known as the “Domenico Daraio” Logistics Platform, which has become a strategic infrastructure for the management and assembly of wind components. The local port authority explained last spring that the use of the Logistics Platform represents a fundamental piece for Vestas in supporting the new production line of wind turbine blades for the super V236 15 MW turbine, with blades as long as 115.5 meters. “The concession – the authority specified in May – will allow the company to efficiently manage the logistics of these components, integrating maritime transport with rail transport and assembly activities, thus strengthening the strategic role of the port of Taranto as an intermodal hub serving renewable energies.”
