Rescued crewmembers from Eternity C arrive in Saudi Arabia

Must read

The ten rescued crewmembers from the bulk carrier Eternity C have arrived safely at a port in Saudi Arabia, bringing a seven day ordeal to a close.

According to maritime risk management firm Vanguard Tech, six Filipino crewmembers were pulled from the water and taken to Yemen by Houthi militants, who were responsible for sinking the vessel.

Furthermore, at least four crewmembers are believed to have died from injuries sustained in the initial attack aboard the Eternity C, while five others remain missing and are now presumed dead bringing the total presumed fatalities to nine.

Among the lost are seven Filipinos, one Russian national and one Indian security guard. To remind, the search and rescue mission for the missing crew was officially called off on 13 July, following the vessel owner’s decision to end the privately-led recovery operation.

The Houthi communications center confirmed that “several” crewmembers were recovered from the water, claiming they were given medical treatment and taken to a “safe location.” However, no timeline has been provided for their release or repatriation.
