Rijkswaterstaat selects Kotug consortium to electrify ERTV in the Netherlands

Must read

The Kustkracht consortium, which includes Kotug International, IHC Defence and Bluewater Energy Services, was one of the three selected by Rijkswaterstaat (the Netherlands’ Public Works and Water Management Agency), to participate in the next phase of the Power2Tow tender, the project that focuses on the electrification and sustainability of the ERTV fleet operating in the North Sea.

This step brings the conglomerate closer to the creation of three virtually emission-free Emergency Response Towing Vessels (ERTV), vessels that can operate electrically and switch to sustainable methanol when more power is required.

“For Kotug, it is an honor to be part of this ambitious consortium. We bring to this collaboration our extensive experience in tugboat operations, innovation and vessel performance. Together, we will help design, develop and deliver the necessary infrastructure and vessels to reduce environmental impact and, at the same time, enhance maritime safety. We look forward to collaborating closely with all partners, innovators and stakeholders in the maritime chain to make Power2Tow a resounding success,” said Kotug.

“For Power2Tow to be successful, it is essential that we seek collaboration with shipyards, port authorities, wind farms and other market players, such as technical developers and business service providers. We desperately need the knowledge and innovation capacity of each one to accelerate the sustainability of maritime transport,” said Christa Kempenaar, director of the Rijkswaterstaat Fleet Renewal program.
