When speaking at the meeting ondeveloping theshipbuilding industry held by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister– Minister ofIndustry andTrade, said that some 6 billion rubles is needed tosupport the shipyards in the Far East region over thenext two years inorder tooffset their investment inbuilding crab-fishing boats. According to the official, proceeds from crab auctions are expected tofinance this subsidy.
“ We have been paying more attention tofishing vessels lately. Inthis segment, we are working with theMinistry ofAgriculture aswell astheFederal Agency forFishery byrelying onthe“under keel” quota mechanism [it requires fishing companies toorder Russian-made vessels inorder toobtain certain fishing quotas under agovernment programme]. Today, there are 70 ships forthefishing industry atvarious stages ofconstruction atour shipyards,” said Denis Manturov.
