SAAM Towage has continued its expansion in Latin America through another acquisition, adding tugboats to its fleet
The Chile-headquartered subsidiary of ports, towage and logistics group SAAM has signed an agreement with Ian Taylor to acquire the company’s towage operations in Peru, adding another four tugs to SAAM Towage’s fleet and operations in the Peruvian ports of Callao and Paita.
“This agreement is part of our strategy to lead the consolidation process taking place in the towage industry,” said SAAM Towage chief executive Hernán Gómez. “It will enable us to continue to strengthen our presence along the Pacific Coast, with the best service offering and geographic coverage,” he said.
Once this deal is completed, SAAM Towage will have a fleet of nine tugs and consolidated national coverage in Peru.
SAAM Towage has been operating harbour tugboats in Peru since 2021.
“We aim to incorporate these high-level assets into our fleet to join the five tugs we already have operating at Peruvian ports,” said Mr Gómez.
“Our intention is to continue operating with the excellence, safety and service quality that has set Ian Taylor apart in Peru,” he added, “values that have been shared by its current shareholders, management and employees and recognised for many years by its customers.”
This acquisition follows April’s purchase by SAAM Towage of Standard Towing and Davies Tugboats in western Canada. Those Burnaby-headquartered companies operate three tugboats in British Columbia.
SAAM Towage is a leading provider of towage services in the Americas. It operates a fleet of more than 180 tugs at 80 ports in the Americas and completes over 110,000 manoeuvres for around 37,000 vessels per year.
