Sailing ban for Vessels in Aegina – Disembarkation of patient from Vessel in Syros

The Port Authority of Aegina was informed about the grounding of a sailing vessel (S/V) with two foreign passengers (U.S. citizens) on a sandy seabed in the sea area outside the port of Megalochori, Angistri.

To the area responded a Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard patrol vessel (PLS), a private vessel, the high-speed vessel (H/S) “XANTHIPPI” T.S. 5349, as well as a Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard patrol vehicle, by land. The S/V was dislodged with the assistance of the “XANTHIPPI” T.S. 5349 and, escorted by the PLS, it sailed to the port of Aegina with its passengers in good health. The Port Authority of Aegina, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, has prohibited the departure of the S/V until a certificate of seaworthiness is presented. No marine pollution was observed from the incident.

-The Port Authority of Syros was informed by the Captain of the passenger-car ferry “BLUE STAR DELOS” N.P. 12082 that a 26-year-old foreign passenger (citizen of Albania) required immediate hospital care. The ship safely sailed into the port, where the patient was received by an EKAB ambulance vehicle and transported to the General Hospital of Syros, while the ship departed to continue its scheduled route.
