Must read

The ceremony for the first steel cutting took place at Saipem’s fabrication yard in Karimun, marking the official start of construction activities for the Tangguh Ucc project, awarded by BP Indonesia.

The event was attended by representatives from the client, local and national government authorities, and members of Saipem’s management, gathered to celebrate this important milestone. The Tangguh Ucc project, located in the West Papua province of Indonesia, is a national strategic project that includes the development of the Ubadari gas field, increased gas capture through carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology, and onshore compression. It is expected to unlock approximately 3 trillion cubic feet of additional natural gas resources from the offshore Ubadari field.

Saipem’s activities include the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of two wellhead platforms, a CO2 reinjection platform, and approximately 90 km of pipelines, cables, and connections to existing field structures.

The Karimun yard, recognized as Saipem’s strategic fabrication hub in Southeast Asia, is the largest in the world for Saipem and one of the largest in the region, with over 5,000 employees and an area of approximately 1.4 million square meters, including the marine base and piers. “This project confirms the Karimun yard’s capability to produce complex and high-quality EPC modules. The facility is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance throughout the execution phase, further consolidating its reputation in the industry,” stated a Saipem note.
