The Port of Salalah has partnered with Maersk to launch a new multimodal transport service to Al-Mazyouna Free Zone.
The agreement aims to secure customs clearances and bonded trucking services to Salalah and Al-Mazyouna free zone hubs under carrier haulage and to support the growth of SMEs in Oman and Yemen by attracting new investors into the south of Oman.
The Port of Salalah and Maersk have just completed the first trial shipment from China to Al-Mazyouna. Transit time between Ningbo, China and Al-Mazyouna, Oman, was 25 days. Salalah views itself as the optimal gateway for Yemen, given its proximity to the border.
“This new corridor will help Yemeni importers to save costs and transit time. Maersk has confirmed its commitment to creating the required capacity, connectivity, and contracts to scale this up, thereby also benefitting the local companies in Oman,” the port said.
