FECO and Port of Salalah officials attending the first voyage of the bunkering barge Sea Dweller
Port of Salalah and Fujairah Engineering Company (FECO) recently signed an agreement that could pave the way for the Omani port to become one of the leading bunkering hubs in the region.
FECO in fact commenced operations in Salalah in June this year, having stationed the bunker barge Sea Dweller in the port. As a result, FECO is already supplying bunkers by ship-to-ship transfer, by pipeline and road tankers and intends to offer fuel of various types and grades of bunker fuels for vessels visiting the port as well as at the anchorage.
The Port of Salalah, strategically located close to busy East-West shipping lanes, has ambitions to offer bunkering as a value-added service. With this objective in mind Port of Salalah invited international tenders in November last year for its tank farm which has a storage capacity of 100,000 tonnes of liquid fuel, through a competitive bidding process, a deal that was finalised in April.
“We are excited at this partnership with Port of Salalah. We hope to expand our presence in the region and are confident of being able to offer bunkering at very competitive pricing to a wide range of customers visiting the Port of Salalah and off Salalah,” commented Ioannis Koilakos, partner, and director of FECO.
