The container ship Solong, which on March 10 collided with the side of the U.S.-registered product tanker Stena Immaculate—after which both ships caught fire, has now arrived in Ghent where it will be scrapped and recycled.
A crew member from Solong has not been seen since the accident and is presumed to have perished in the flames or drowned at sea.
The container ship’s captain has been arrested for involuntary manslaughter and awaits trial in a British court.
The scrapyard Galloo in Ghent, responsible for the dismantling, expects to complete the scrapping by the end of this year or early next year.
The British maritime accident authority, The Marine Accident Investigation Bureau, continues to work on finalizing the official report on the accident.
